I had the opportunity to take a day off to celebrate the San Francisco Giants victory of the 2012 World Series this year. The City of San Francisco scheduled the victory parade on Halloween. It’s the perfect day as the colors for the Giants team are black and orange. I saw the victory parade on TV in 2010 and decided I needed to feel the excitement this year and be there in person.
There were a lot of Giants fans on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). We decided to meet at the Civic Center in downtown San Francisco, where the parade route ends and the team will speak. Upon my exit off the BART station, I saw our very own Cisco NERV vehicle, supporting the City of San Francisco Giants Parade.
As I was walking towards Civic Center, I was wondering why our Cisco NERV truck was there. NERV, which stands for “Network Emergency Response Vehicle” was there to help command and control centers establish command presence, resource control, and communication interoperability for incident response. Per SFGate.com, there were over 1 million fans at the parade and if there was an incident, one can only imagine and I was very proud our Cisco NERV truck was there.
It takes a village to make an event like the parade a success just like it took spectacular teamwork for the Giants to be the ultimate comeback kid. The Giants team worked very hard, shaking themselves off to come back from again and again and many teammates from Marcos Scutaro, Pablo Sandoval, Matt Cain, Sergio Romo all made speeches to thank the fans and the team. To me, the best and most memorable speech was made by pitcher Ryan Vogelsong when he said ‘when we stopped playing for the name behind us and started playing for the name in front us, we came back’. Thank you for an awesome end to the 2012 season. Congratulations 2012 World Series Champions. Go GIANTS!
