The ultimate goal of the Borderless Networks plan is to help people, and the technology and devices they use, to connect seamlessly through the network regardless of location. Almost a year ago, we challenged ourselves with this basic question: “If the network will eventually touch everything, then wouldn’t it be useful to manage energy at every point in the network?”
EnergyWise was our answer. And ever since we first rolled out this next-generation company-wide energy manager, the plan really came together. Big milestones for the product have included partner implementations from IBM and SolarWinds, as well as the Best of Interop 2009 Green Award.
What is EnergyWise capable of today? EnergyWise currently works on Cisco Catalyst switches and the Cisco LAN Management System. Any and all PoE enabled devices can be monitored and managed through the system, even non-Cisco devices.
Organizations like the University of Plymouth, the John Lewis Partnership, and Friends Provident are already seeing the benefits of EnergyWise deployments. Today, businesses can reduce their overall energy footprint through efficient use of devices connected to the network. Electrical power management can be optimized by monitoring usage patterns on the network and controlling consumption accordingly. Borders to understanding inefficiencies in the network are breaking down.
In the future, EnergyWise will also break down borders between IT and facilities networks. Imagine controlling everything from lighting, heating, and air conditioning to elevator systems in an entire complex. Imagine borderless energy management.
What do imagine you can control with EnergyWise?
