Congratulations Karen McFadzen: Finalist in The Australian Financial Review’s 100 Women of Influence Awards

Karen McFadzen, VP of Technical Services for Cisco Asia Pacific, Japan & Greater China, has been recognised as a finalist in The Australian Financial Review’s 100 Women of Influence Awards for her dedication to achieving greater workforce diversity at Cisco, driving innovation within the company and making a difference to the wider community.

As The AFR reported it received over 500 applications, Cisco is exceptionally proud to commend Karen for being recognised as one of the 100 finalists.

Karen was recognised in the Global category for her influence and participation in a number of global initiatives and as a passionate advocate on topics including leadership, the development of next generation talent and Inclusion & Diversity. For example, since 2006, Karen has been an active board member of the Cisco Foundation, which supports Cisco’s efforts to team with NPO/NGO organisations around the world to develop public investment programs in education and health. This role has enabled Karen to engender a greater global perspective at Cisco’s Foundation Board level.

Fabric Computing – The Next Wave of Virtualisation

At vForum in Sydney today, Cisco’s Justin Cooke addressed an audience on the topic of Fabric Computing, which Cisco believes is the next wave of virtualisation.

It was the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) which has been the main driver of the market transition to Fabric Computing, delivering compute, network, storage access and virtualisation as one cohesive system before the term Fabric Computing became commonplace.

NEC Australia and Cisco Collaborate to deliver Hybrid Cloud Unified Communications

NEC Australia has announced this week that it has launched NEC Cloud Collaboration, a cloud application portfolio which includes solutions for telephony/voice, video and web conferencing, mobile devices, chat and IM all hosted in a hybrid on-premise and cloud deployment model.

Cisco Hosts Incheon City Mayor at Smart City Solutions R&D Center in Korea

Last week, Cisco hosted Incheon City Mayor Song Young-Gil, IFEZ commissioner Lee Jong-Cheol, President of Smart+Connected Communities and Deputy Chief Globalization Officer Anil Menon, Cisco Korea President KW Chong and other officials at its opening of the Global Center of Excellence (GCoE) in Song-do, Incheon where the development of smart city solutions will take place.

The attendees agreed to provide active support in helping the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) move forward in becoming the world’s best smart city. In addition, Cisco, in close cooperation with local companies, announced its intent to pursue opportunities to penetrate the overseas markets with Smart City technologies, solutions and service offerings developed and successfully applied in the IFEZ.

Cisco Kicking Goals with Telstra at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium

In the wake of the Sydney Roosters’ defeat over the Manly Sea Eagles in a classic NRL Grand Final at ANZ Stadium last Sunday, the venue has announced it will roll-out Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-Fi. This will see the iconic venue, the centrepiece of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, joining the likes of Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in the UK and Eden Park in New Zealand as truly world class venues in terms of the Wi-Fi network available to patrons.

The Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-Fi solution will be rolled out in conjunction with Telstra and will create a best-of-breed environment for heightened audience engagement during sporting events and other major entertainment events which are regularly held at the stadium. The solution was chosen due to its unique ability to provide connectivity to large numbers of people in a densely packed environment and the potential to work in conjunction with Telstra’s digital media capability at the venue to create an integrated engagement platform for the stadium, its sponsorship partners and patrons.
