Emerging Countries

With the start of the new academic season in fall 2010, young entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan will have the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills and learn about strategic business planning, venture capital relationships, funding and investment and the use the information and communications technologies (ICT) at the newly established Cisco Entrepreneur Institute in the capital city Baku.

With the Internet generation entering the workplace, the combination of business knowledge and technology is becoming increasingly important. The Cisco Entrepreneur Institute provides practical knowledge for entrepreneurs on how to utilize technology to speed business growth.

The Cisco Entrepreneur Institute is established under the Azercell Barama Alliance, formed by Azercell Telecom, Cisco and USAID, with the objective to promote the development of the ICT sector in Azerbaijan. The alliance – initiated by USAID -- will work together closely with the Barama Innovation Center, established by Azercell, where young Azerbaijani entrepreneurs have the opportunity to develop their ICT and telecom-related innovations before launching them in the market.

The Barama Innovation Center was opened in Baku in December 2009. Participants at Barama are offered a high-tech work environment, necessary means of communication, technological support and equipment and professional business training and support. With room for approximately 20 entrepreneurs at a time, each entrepreneur is provided research space and resources for six to twelve months, depending on the complexity of their concept.
