VMworld 2011 – Day 3 – Blogger Techminute – UCS

- September 1, 2011 - 0 Comments

It’s time for another installment in the Daily Blogger Techminute from VMworld 2011 in Vegas. This edition we will focus on the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and we will hear from a couple of UCS stars.

Our guests were:

We kicked off with Sean giving an overview of the architectural superiority of the Unified Computing System.  Sean has also written a great blog post (“The Mini Rack Approach to BladeServer Design”) on the subject that provides more details and information.

Jeff then provided some practical benefits that customers were seeing with the UCS architecture.  A couple items Jeff highlighted are:
  • Reduction in managed switches and port count
  • Virtual Interface Card providing abstraction and flexibility, but increase visibility within a virtualized environment
  • Single point of management via Unified Computing System Manager
Finally, Sean closes out the blog with some new features that are right around the corner in a fall release.  It’s been a great conference and you can find more information about the UCS on the Cisco UCS site.
