Bring the Industrial Revolution to your Oracle Workloads (Learn More by Stopping at Booth 801 at OOW 2015)

When I think of how technology has changed in the data center, I am always reminded of the history of the industrial revolution.  Wikipedia begins its definition and description of the industrial revolution in these words: “The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. This transition included going from hand production methods to machines … and the rise of the factory system.”* Wikipedia goes onto say: “The Industrial Revolution marks a major turning point in history; almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way”*

The industrial revolution reminds me of a strong metaphor between the productivity benefits of abstracting all attributes of UCS Servers in software (UCS Manager, UCS Central, UCS Director) and the assembly line of the industrial revolution.  This historical analogy helps illustrate and underscore how much customers can benefit from a switch to Cisco UCS servers.   The historical parallel between these two changes in producing goods (industrial revolution) and the provisioning and deploying servers (UCS Manager/ UCS Central/UCS Director) (producing server images in software) is striking on many levels.

Composable Infrastructure, Part 2: What are the Benefits?

Jed ScaramellaWe recently sat down with IDC analyst, Jed Scaramella, to talk about an interesting and accelerating trend in data center technology: composable infrastructure. With UCS M-Series servers, Cisco has taken an important step forward in this space. To help frame things up, we asked Jed for his take on the market drivers and customer needs fueling innovation. We’ve broken the conversation with Jed into a series and hope to shed some light on how this will re-shape computing architecture and the opportunities for IT.

Celebrating Five Years of FlexPod Success and Innovation

Five years ago, Cisco and NetApp released FlexPod, combining Cisco UCS integrated infrastructure and NetApp storage, with the goal of increasing IT responsiveness to business demands while reducing cost and risk. We started with solutions focused on virtualized infrastructure and desktop virtualization and experienced great success. We have continued to integrate new technologies and expand the solution portfolio to include cloud solutions, enterprise applications, and analytics from the data center to the edge.flexpod_server

In the last five years, FlexPod has created outstanding momentum with customers and partners. In this short period of time we have:

  • Generated shared revenues of 5.6 billion
  • Over 6300 customers in 100 plus countries
  • Collaborated on more than 100 validated application and infrastructure designs
  • Created a strong partner ecosystem with greater than 1100 partners

We would like to thank our technology partners – VMware, Citrix, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, and Red Hat – for their collaboration and support.

We are very proud of our success but also realize that supporting the business from an IT perspective is getting more complex as users require performance and flexibility but also want a simpler approach to deploying and managing infrastructure that better optimizes costs and existing staff resources.

Together, Cisco and NetApp, with our partners, continue to expand FlexPod capabilities to address evolving business requirements. Cisco and Netapp have released new FlexPod solutions to help application run at their best. FlexPod solutions with Cisco UCS, NetApp All Flash FAS and Cisco ACI deliver incredible new levels of performance.  FlexPod with Cisco ACI for Microsoft and SAP applications offers a simple, policy-based approach to application deployments.
