At Interop yesterday, Doug Gourlay, Cisco VP Data Center 3.0 Solutions, discussed the status of the standards for next-generation ethernet. In this video he talks about how Cisco customers can get better performance, better density, lower power, and longer distance with subsequent optimizations and how the standards are emerging between Data Center Ethernet and Convergence Enhanced Ethernet.

The Future of Enterprise Cloud Computing

James Urquhart, Cisco cloud computing expert, and author of the CNET blog “the wisdom of clouds “ was a panelist at Interop’s Enterprise Cloud Summit, and will talk again on Thursday He shared with us some of the major points of his presentation, covering the Cisco vision of cloud computing, and the benefits for the enterprises.

Cisco Unified Computing System: Best of Interop 2009 Winner

Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) just won “2009 Best of Interop Award” in the Data Center & Storage category at industry leading global technology event Interop 2009. imageHere is what judges have to say about UCS “It’s clear that Cisco really examined the server virtualization challenge carefully when they designed the UCS. Everywhere you look, you can see how they focused on removing virtualization bottlenecks and enabling flexible device management at every level – plus they’ve left plenty of room for growth. That’s why the UCS is our choice for the BOI Data Center and Storage Category winner for 2009.” Detailed analysis from award judges is available here. This is the second industry award for Cisco UCS within a month, which shows broad industry adoption and appreciation of Cisco UCS innovative architecture.

Why Ethernet Wins…

OK, so the title is meant to be a bit ambiguous, as much a question as it is a statement–I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I have been pondering this a bit since I am prepping for my CCIE re-cert and its kinda fun looking back at how much things have changed in 15 years. It also seems everyone and their brother wants to sell Ethernet switches these days. Companies that have never sold Ethernet are now all over it and companies that have repeatedly walked away from the Ethernet market keep coming back. So, what is it about Ethernet that makes it the networking juggernaut? Read More »
