I recently wrote about our participation to Oracle OpenWorld 2011, highlighting John Chambers key note speech and the importance of Cisco and Oracle partnership
Yesterday I talked with one of the Cisco experts on Oracle , John McAbel – John will have a speaking session ((Session #9208)) with Oracle VM Product Management Director Ronen Kofman , and was kind enough to explain in front of the camera what it is about
Here is the extract of the session
Oracle VM provides users with an array of new capabilities to help manage and consolidate workloads as a first step to a cloud implementation. The underlying hardware must be architected to combine compute, network, and storage elements balanced correctly to help ensure maximum performance.

Today’s IT organizations face a broad set of challenges today.
- How to deal with the proliferation of end-user devices? (smartphones, tablets, etc.)
- How to deal with the proliferation of virtualization and it’s new operational model?
- How to adapt to requirement for new application traffic patterns (east-west, VM mobility)?
- How to manage the edges of their networks as work/life locations blur?
- When do they decide to deliver a business need via internal resources vs. external resources?
- With all this technology change happening so rapidly, how do they align their teams?

Do you know the expected size of the audience at Oracle OpenWorld 2011 in San Francisco , October 2-6. ? Probably at least 41 000 attendees .No doubt that this year again the huge software company will succeed in attracting a very large crowd of IT decision makers and managers anxious to learn more, and solve daily problems as well as planning future services for their organizations.
Cisco this year again will be present as a diamond sponsor – And guess what ? John Chambers , Chairman and CEO of Cisco will on Wednesday October 5 morning the key notes speaker starting at 8:00 am PST . Well ..what does it mean ? Let me give you my perspective on that
First the partnership between Oracle and Cisco is getting stronger and deeper over the time- Yes our entrance on the server market with the Unified Computing systems at the time that Oracle was acquiring Sun Microsystems makes the relationhip more complex , but let’s face it – Oracle is first of all a software company, and when a company like Cisco is coming with a very successful server platform which makes your software shine in terms of performances, you definitely want your applications on this platform. Check out here benchmark reports and some customer testimonials.

Today, we announced we will be delivering VM networking support for Hyper-V in Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows 8. Specifically, we are working with Microsoft to deliver integrated support for the Nexus 1000V and VM-FEX technology in their next generation server platform, thus extending the benefits customers have seen from both these technologies to another server/hypervisor environment. For more info, check out the announcement and this brief and this Q&A.
With this latest announcement, we offer (or will offer) Nexus 1000V functionality for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V as well as VM-FEX support for those two hypervisors and RedHat Enterprise Virtualization. For folks building out virtualization architectures and cloud environments, we think this is a key benefit, since it maintains their choice and flexibility and allows them to build out hyper-visor agnostic infrastructure that delivers consistent features and functionality.
So, that’s about it for now. Stay tuned to this space and we’ll keep you apprised as things progress.
