A few weeks ago, VMware announced a huge number of updates to their product portfolio, under the “Cloud Infrastructure Suite” umbrella. Without going into all the product/feature specifics, as plenty of blogs have already covered that, I wanted to highlight several areas where IT organizations will now have the opportunity to truly take advantage of joint integration and world-class technology from Cisco and VMware. I highlight these because many of them will be demo’d at the Cisco Booth (#700) at VMworld next week, as well as covered in white-boarding and Q&A sessions with our “Ask the Experts” panel each day.
So if you’re going out to VMworld 2011 in Las Vegas next week, I highly recommend you check out these technologies and opportunities to improve how IT is delivered to your business:
“Monster VMs” -- one of the key areas of vSphere 5 is enhanced capabilities to host large, Tier-1 application VMs. This is a huge advancement as IT organizations look to continue to drive greater utilization and efficiency in the data center, without sacrificing performance and availability. And there is no better x86 server platform to run those mission-critical applications on that Cisco UCS. Not only has the UCS plaform been independently proven to provide world-record performance for almost every application type, but more and more customers are voting with their wallets that UCS will be their next generation server platform (now up to 7400 customers as of August 2011). Yesterday, we went behind the scenes and introduced you to our preparation for VMworld 2011. But preparation only is only a hope for great execution. Great execution requires a gameplan that can address every possible scenario, emphasizes strengths and attempts to minimize any weaknesses.
In today’s behind-the-scenes preparation for VMworld, we look at “The Gameplan” to bring the best of knowledge, learning and fun to the Cisco booth (#700) at the show.

So, sleep has been a little hard to come by in my neck of the woods as we ramp up for VMworld next week, but I think our presence at the show will be well worth the effort. We have some great demos and theater presentations, some informative demos and lab and all sorts of smart folks that can get your questions answered.
So, here is the cliff notes version of what we are up to:
Less than a week from today, VMworld 2011 will be in full motion, bringing together 20,000 IT professionals looking to learn how to bring together Virtualization, Cloud Computing, and new Applications to improve their IT environment and ultimately their businesses. As a Diamond Sponsor, Cisco will obviously have a huge presence all around the show. Super Sessions, Podcasts, Live Demos, Tweetups, Ask the Experts events, Hands-On Labs, and lots of fun things in the Cisco booth (#700). If you’re attending VMworld, you’ll get to see the byproduct of all the hard work and efforts to bring knowledge to these IT professionals and Cisco customers.
But this year we thought it would also be fun to bring you a day-by-day, behind-the-scenes look at how all of this is coming together.

Within the Data Center marketing organization, we spend quite a bit of time focused on activities that announce new products or solutions, as well as educating customers, partners and analysts. Sometimes this is done via launches and other times it’s at events like EMC World 2011, SAP Sapphire, Citrix Synergy, CiscoLive 2011 or the upcoming VMworld 2011 (Cisco is a Diamond-level Sponsor). But once that information leaves our hands and gets out into the community, it’s important for us to remember that it’s often discussed, dissected, and evaluated by a broad range of IT professionals.
Over the past few weeks and months, Cisco Data Center technologies have been features in several industry podcasts.
