Is Cisco MDS 9000 Part of Cisco’s Unified Fabric Strategy?  Part 1

Part 1 of a series of four interviews with Cisco and EMC experts in Storage Networking. Bill Marozas,  Cisco Data Center Solutions Marketing, talks about the Cisco MDS 9000 , and what customers are asking him at EMC World this year. As usual, Bill was not afraid to face tough questions related to the choice that Cisco made for the MDS 9000 in order to ultimately deliver a unified fabric experience.

He covers topics including: strategies around 8GB FC and Service-Oriented SAN; partnerships with VMware and EMC; migration path to FCoE; commitment to FC as the data center transport protocol and to MDS as the FC platform.

Visit http://www.cisco.com/go/emcworld09 to find a video interview of Richard Rose, Cisco Product Manager, talking about VM-optimized SANs.

Did I miss something?

Is there a FCOE line card announcement for the MDS Chassis?

That would be nice even if it was just a couple of ports.

Hi Han,
yes, MDS 9500 Series fully integrates in the Cisco Unified Fabric vision and will seamlessly support FCoE modules. Please refer to a previous blog post (http://tinyurl.com/c9zxt6) and to the MDS 9000 Statement of Direction (http://tinyurl.com/qzunmy) for more information. Details on time frame and port count (more than a couple for sure) will come in the next months.
Regards,
Paolo
