Home Networking: Beyond the Basics

A wireless router allows you to do more than just check email and surf the web. Check out five other things you can do over your home network:

1. Streaming videos and movies to your Internet-enabled television or disc player with the help of the Wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band (WET610N). Once connected to your existing wireless home network, you can use these devices to access premium content and free on-demand entertainment.

2. Internet gaming made easy! Connecting a gaming console to the Internet allows you to access exclusive content like new or classic videogames, and compete with players from around the  globe. Get your game on with the Wireless-N Broadband Router (WRT160N)  and a gaming adapter.

3. Surfing the web with a netbook, the fastest growing computer category this year. Most netbooks have a pre-installed Wireless-N adapter so use a Wireless-N router, like the Wireless-N Home Router (WRT120N)  for the most efficient web-surfing and email access.

4. Print wirelessly from any room in the house without switching cables or relying on a portable flash drive. There is no need to have a dedicated PC for printing with the Wireless-G Multifunction PrintServer (WPSM54G) connected to your network. Use devices with Wi-Fi Protected Setup for a simple way to secure your home wireless network and to help keep private documents like bank statements and tax returns secure.

5. File sharing is getting easier! Share your content on your network and access it anywhere in the world when using a NAS device connected to a wireless router with StorageLink.

  2. Wireless networks are a huge convenience. However, my experience is the speeds are not up to par yet for viewing video or movies online.

  3. Good post. Although the last one, File Sharing, can be done without the NAS device. But I get the gist.
