Visual Networking with Cisco and the Flip Camera

image
Visual networking becomes a larger part of our lives everyday and it pleases me to write that after much speculation, Cisco has announced the intent to acquire Pure Digital, the makers the Flip Video™ line of video recorders. (Click here to view the release.)

The Flip cameras are famous for their mass consumer appeal and a sleek, yet simple approach to high quality video. I’ve personally used the Flip cameras for over a year and I think they are the ideal accessory for visual networking because they allow you to instantly upload HD video directly to your computer, then easily edit and post your video online in a matter of minutes with Flipshare software. You literally only needed to press one button to record and are never bothered by rather lugging around a huge camera bag and tripod.

Flip video cameras will retain their product name under the Cisco brand, which supports other visual networking products, such as Cisco by Linksys routers. At CES, Cisco announced multiple product announcements that enable a connected life, which extend the intelligence of the home network and deliver new entertainment and communication experiences. Pure Digital’s history of providing the next level of digital consumer experiences makes the company a perfect addition to Cisco’s consumer line of products.

Here are a few videos, from Cisco executives, that were filmed with the Flip Mino camera in HD and highlight today’s announcement:

Ken Wirt, VP of Consumer Marketing discusses our acquisition of Pure Digital Technologies Inc., the maker of Flip Video products and how it fits into Cisco’s consumer strategy.

Ken Wirt, VP of Consumer Marketing at Cisco talks about how Flip Video supports the transition from the media-enabled home to visual networking.

Gautam Nadella and Chris Dobrec from Cisco provide an overview of Cisco’s acquisition of Pure Digital Technologies Inc the maker of Flip Video.

We currently use the FLIP camera to video resort communities on our website. We purchased the FLIP HD over the weekend and it is clearly an upgrade. We’ll have hi def pics later this week.

Yeah, the video is perfect! It is almost incredible for such a small camera. You know, camera passed a long way. I watched a documentary about different inventions (found it at the torrents files search engine http://www.picktorrent.com ) It was interesting to learn how cameras changed in time. Gerbert Land would never believe that such things are possible.
Nice work!

I love the Flip.  While touring Mississippi I was able to capture video of a real estate development project using my Flip.  Turns out the developer wanted my company to market his project, the footage from the Flip was so good I was able to use it in the real production of the marketing video.  You can check it out the video on this page.
