Green Living with the Folding Bike

Digital Cribs star and founder of Treehugger.com, Graham Hill, recommends the folding bike for ideal city transportation. Today, I agree with him more than ever, as I was rear-ended on my way into work.  shut eye

There are other pains to city driving that a folding bike can remedy. For example, did you know that free parking is hardly ever actually free? And a parked Hummer is just as ‘green’ as a parked Prius 95% of the time?  Yikes!

For many urban cities in the U.S., expansion is dependent on the amount of space for visitors to park. Donald Shoup, author of The High Cost of Free Parking explains in his book, that 98% of the parking in America is at free parking locations. So the money invested in the parking spaces is rarely recouped, a figure that reaches to hundreds of billions.

We can do our part by taking public transportation, or riding a bike in the city, and hopefully send the message that a bike lane could potentially bring as much urban development as a four story garage.
