I’m guilty. Acknowledging is the first step to recovery, right? I don’t back up my digital data very thoroughly, no matter how important it is. In millennium-era fashion, I find the time to email the super essential stuff to myself, but deep down, I know that there’s a better way than filling the inbox of my web-based email server. Having my documents, pictures, music, etc. is really as easy as picking up a USB drive next time I am out, which would allow me to save all this content using just my home network.
If I can do it, so can you, provided you have a router with a Storage Link USB port. Plug in a hard drive or a USB storage device of any kind directly into your router, quickly configure, and save away. After that, you’ll be able to access this data from any computer on your network, which makes it essential to secure your network against outside devices. Using Storage Link means no annoying devices sticking out of your laptop as you roam throughout your home, and better yet, no drawer full of beat-up hard drives to search through for your summer vacation pictures.
Make your content easily available to your entire family, and anyone else on your network, by securing and organizing data using this simple process. Your inbox will thank you.
Could not agree more. Backups are the most overlooked technology in the digital home. After having my single-drive backup unit crash (unrecoverable), I lost quite a bit of music and documents. I invested in a Netgear DUO, a 2-drive NAS that connects to my network. One of the best purchases I have ever made. My data is backed up at all times, across 2 drives. I even use Dropbox to sync some data offsite, but its accessible from anywhere, even my iPhone.
Good article.I never really cared about backing up my data until that lack”" day when I lost everything due to a drive crash. It was a horrible experience. Now I backup my data daily to my NAS using a software and to Dropbox (as Daniel suggested).Dropbox is great when you work with the same files on different computers.I recommend to everyone backup, backup, backup! You will not regret it.”
The old adage You don’t know what you lost till it’s gone”" is especially true of your digital content! I lost everything when my laptop was stolen about a year ago.Now I perform weekly backups to my external hard drive with an almost religious zeal. It’s much better to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to data backup.”
