New features on Apple’s new iPhone 3G S help users of Cisco WebEx meetings

The new Apple iPhone 3G S on the new 3.0 operating system has many features that will be helpful to WebEx users on the iPhone.  Here are my top three new features:

Spotlight Search for WebEx meeting invitation

You can now quickly search and find that WebEx invitation whether it be in your email or in your calendar to simply join the meeting on your iPhone.

Cut and paste

When you want to invite other people to a WebEx meeting, you now have option to simply copy and paste the WebEx meeting URL into a text.  The recipient of the text simply needs to click on the url to join the WebEx meeting.

Active URL link in calendar

My favorite—being able click on the WebEx meeting URL in the Calendar to join a WebEx meeting.  The easiest way to schedule WebEx meeting is from the Outlook calendar or Lotus Notes using a plug in called WebEx Productivity Tools. Attendees will receive the meeting invitation in their calendar with the WebEx meeting info. To join the meeting, you can simply go to your calendar and tap on the meeting join link in the calendar invitation to join the meeting.

With just these three features, iPhone users have more ways to quickly join WebEx meetings.  But of course, we aren’t stopping there.  The Cisco WebEx team is actively looking at adding additional features that leverage the iPhone 3.0 platform.  But you’ll have to wait to hear more about those features. grin

I hate to turn your blog post into a support call, but it seems that the iPhone WebEx app (current version as of 1pm central 19-June, anyway) doesn’t work with iphone 3.0 and/or the new iphone “3G S” model.

I tried to install the app on my new iphone 3GS, and saw the following result:
-app started to install as normal
-app icon went from “Loading…” to “Installing…”
-after 5min, the app icon was still at “Installing…”
-at this point I decided to restart the iphone.
-upon restart, there was no longer a Webex icon on the iphone
-I relaunched the app store, but could not reinstall the webex app, as it reports “Installed”

I asked a friend to try it on HIS iphone 3G S, and he saw essentially identical results:

-he downloaded the webex app via itunes
-he synced the app to his iphone
-post-sync, there was no sign of the WebEx app on the iphone

Can anyone offer firsthand experience with the WebEx app working on the iphone 3G_S and/or an iphone 3G running the 3.0 OS?

No it isn’t US only at this time.

It has been on the UK Apple site since last Tuesday. Come on… a little basic research before posting. All it takes in this case is logging into the various national online Apple stores.

i like the cut and paste feature, but when zooming in on some things it selects the text and messes up the zoom which is slightly annoying

i wouldnt say it was worth paying $10 for (itouch users)... i was happy with 2.2.1

I am please to hear about the announcement made that Cisco WebEx meeting Center lets iPhone users participate in WebEx based meetings via live audio and instant messaging, in addition to documents, applications and desktop sharing in both portrait and landscape mode. Cisco has given the iphone a significant push in business environments, having much needed compatibility with the first class teleconferencing solution. It would be nice to be able to dial into a meeting without have to be chained to my desk.
