Flick of the Wrist at Cisco with our Director of User-Centered Design


I was over in Building 31 the other day and was about to meet with Cordell Ratzlaff, Director of Cisco’s User-Centered Design Team in the Voice Technology Group when I saw him take his iPhone and flick his wrist at his computer. I started wondering what could he be doing? So with my ready-to-shoot Flip Mino HD video camera already in hand I walked into Ratzlaff’s office to record this interesting feature.  While walking across campus, Cordell was finishing up on a WebEx meeting on his iPhone but when he got to his office he wanted the benefits of the large size of his desktop screen so with the flick of his wrist he transferred the WebEx meeting to his desktop.

Cordell leads the User-Centered Design team in Cisco’s Voice Technology Group, which is responsible for designing compelling user experiences across Cisco’s Unified Communications product portfolio. He has over twenty years experience designing and delivering successful products on a wide range of software, hardware, and Web applications.

Very cool. I wouldn’t use this too often, but when arriving a bit late from a meeting to my desktop at home- this would be great.

The other thing I’d like to see- video cam to my iPhone for WebEx.

Personally I’m just happy to see that Cisco even -has- a team with the term “user centered design” in the title. Seems to me that most companies Cisco’s size are more about paying lip service to UCD than actually building teams, processes and products around it. Nice to see that Cisco has the right idea.

Not the sort of thing I need to use, but the idea is fanatstic, the implementation looked absolutely superb and this could be used on many iPhone apps.

Fantastic, it really does look like a gadget of the future, but it’s here and it’s now. So cool!!

This is great, so will the reverse movement allow me to take the session to my iPhone as well?

As well, do you plan to add an icon in the Webex software to use my camera?
