Cisco IT Data Center Experience

I always find the Cisco on Cisco information fascinating and I think it is great that we continue to invest in getting stories like this documented…there are many of course.  My official office (outside of my home office) is technically our Richardson, TX campus and I watched from afar as they built Richardson 9 into this incredible data center. They never let me in but they consistently churned out updates and very nice overviews internal and external as to what was happening and why.  There is an amazing amount of detail here presented in a very futuristic manner…but I do think it is highly valuable if you have any interest in Data Center and some insight into how Cisco ‘eats its own cooking.’

Branch Office Step Child

We focus so much on performance conversations and the new ISR G2 (Integrated Services Router, Generation 2) can certainly hold its own in that arena with 5X the performance of its predecessor…but if you are not careful, you are going to miss the change going on here.  Yes its about video enablement and ‘branch office equality’...all good things…but look deeper into how services are getting delivered.  Its about possibilities, flexibilities and opportunities. Turning on services needed in remote locations has historically been such a pain that it was simply avoided.  These issues have been tackled head on.  Talking about business benefits on something referred to as a router is never easy either.  Our Borderless Hostess brought in her friend Mick Scully to help out:

ShowNotes: Network Security Survival Guide

TWTV56

Welcome to the Show Notes!  Are you here because you clicked the shownotes link while watching the show?  OR…have you not NOT seen the show…or just need to share it? All our shows can be found anytime at techwisetv.com but you can get to the official registration page quite quickly by clicking here.

This is a great one today…you really must watch it..its security silly! The topic that just never quits… I apologize you get to see a lot of Jimmy Ray and I on this one…a few less guests than normal but we got the goods!  The idea was to really narrow down the control points that still remain when your network is no longer identified by a physical entity or easily defined presence if you will.  We took advantage of Jimmy Ray’s hacker skills and did our best to to walk in his shoes..what would he do? Where would he go? We flip it around each time of course and show what YOU would do in response….

The promo if you missed it:

Here is what we promised…

Integrated Services Router - What Really Changed?

Matt Lambert on TechWiseTV 53

Excitement, fear, trepidation…one always wonders what changes and what stays the same.  The new Integrated Services Router (the G2) has a lot of fun new stuff to talk about ...but… if you are an existing ISR customer with a decent investment in modules, education, comfort factor, etc…what happens to you?  These are the questions Jimmy Ray put to our good friend, Matt Lambert.

Take a look at this!

Favorite Tools

Size Up - Irradiated SoftwareI had gotten a bunch of ‘direct’ comments on my rambling productivity post (confessions of a productivity geek) that I have started penning more opinions on personal tools I find useful. I love trying to figure out if new bits of software, scripts or even web-based services might help spark my next idea or burst of efficiency.  The biggest thing I have learned is that nothing is worth keeping/investing in if I can’t work into my own personal workflow…although that does not keep from wasting time and money.  So, although I look forward to providing more detail and opinion in the future - let me add my latest little nugget I am playing with and I have high hopes.

Confessions of a Productivity Geek

Vintage JoystickCollaboration - is it something you ‘do’ or something we want you to ‘buy?’  Yes! Kinda.

This ‘catch-all’ term for a never-ending set of tools, technologies and processes continues to evolve.  As a self-professed productivity geek I just love this stuff.  In my highly valued opinion, Cisco is ‘the most advanced’ provider of tools that embrace and work to solve the real challenges inherent in ‘getting things done’ with today’s business needs firmly in place.

Allow me to explain -

What is up with that Shirt?

Jimmy Ray in TWTV52 - Name that Reference

Questions about Jimmy Ray’s wardrobe continue to filter in each time we air a show.  Our Catalyst Switching show that aired yesterday was no exception. The good folks at Jinx as well as ThinkGeek have provided him with numerous options that you will continue to see if you follow along. The fun part for me, and now apparently for many others, is the game we get to play each time in figuring out the reference.  Some are deeply technical, some are simply obscure cultural references.

This is a good shot of what he wore for yesterday’s show.  This one’s a two-fer.  Two references being made here (the undershirt…and the one I am not sure he can button).  What do you think they are?   The answers are below…so if you want to challenge yourself…wait to push that ‘more’ button.
