One of the great aspects of my role here at Cisco is the opportunity to work directly with Cisco customers as an executive sponsor on their collaboration technologies.
One company in particular, General Electric (GE), has been a true thought leader and is leading the way in collaboration.
To underscore this point, GE recently launched Colab, its own social collaboration platform (using Cisco’s WebEx Social – formerly Quad – as the core engine) for 60,000 users to date (with a goal of reaching 100,000 users by year-end). These 60,000 users represent more than one-third of GE’s 150,000 knowledge workers, the company’s target audience for Colab.
According to Ron Utterbeck, GE’s corporate CIO, more than 3,000 new user groups have been created on Colab since it launched. Employees are using the platform because they can do their day job easier by linking in and networking with their peers.

In closing, I’d like to note that GE has been part of Cisco’s Customer Collaboration Board for the last three years. It has been rewarding to work with GE on its collaboration journey. And it’s been a team effort -- GE has worked with many employees across Cisco, especially those in IT and engineering. Just like Cisco, GE’s journey has been a transformational experience, truly a combination of the right process, culture and technology mapped together.
