TechWiseTV: The Unified Access Launch

The original vision of a ‘borderless’ continues to play out this week at Interop and we have a TechWiseTV episode covering all the details.  ’Simplified and Secure’ is how Inbar Lasser-Raab put it.  The power of ONE: Network, Managment and Policy

Sachin Gupta is our first guest expert here to explain how Cisco’s Unified Access Network offers simplified IT operations, reduced operational costs, and better scaling to accommodate the proliferation of devices and applications now and in the future.

We move on to the relentless advancement of the ‘Prime Management’ story.  We have chronicled many aspects of this incredible undertaking and it just keeps getting better. Mark Emmerson joins us to talk Prime Infrastructure.  Best of breed management for wireless (NCS) and wired (LMS) lifecycle management coupled with assurance,  all under a single-pane-of-glass. (Prime Assurance also added wireless support this week from Interop in New York -- we covered this a bit back at Interop Las Vegas with special guest Jim Frey - Closing the Loop for Effective Network Operations Management)

Details from the wireless side characterizes the back half of the show starting with wireless controller updates featuring sub second stateful failover.  Ranjan Goel illustrates this plus, virtualized controller support and much more. 802.11ac is being enabled on the 3600 access points and we are now looking at a narrower gap between wired and wireless. (watch the ‘Fundamentals of 802.11ac’ below for a great primer on the new standard)

Sangita Mahishi leads our Show and Tell with a little ‘Name that AP’ for me as I am perpetually slow to identify our AP models with their low profile design. Sangita brings in a whole box of toys: Aironet 1600, 2600 and 3600 plus the amazing new security module.

Jimmy Ray and I wrap it up by picking from one of the smaller announcements: IPv6First Hop Security.  With so many updates to Cisco’s switching line with new IOS 15.0(2)SE, we had to pick something to dig into….no big surprise, we chose security.  IPv6 delivers more security while also opening a few new holes.  Awareness is often the first step to recovery!

Enjoy the Show!
