For those of you who did not make it to our live discussion today…we did two of them, one on Conficker and the other on the new Data Center Technologies. Our good friend Josh Stephen’s from Solar Winds joined in the lively discussion. You can listen via our TalkShoe player here…be sure and check past episodes if you are not getting the one you want. We will be adding new topics every week. If you already get our iTunes feed, you would get these there as well. Johanna Fry added some great info on Conficker worm on the DigitALL consumer blog. Jimmy Ray referenced some good sights to check out:Basic InfoMust have Microsoft ToolsMicrosoft’s Malicious Software Removal Tool Microsoft’s DefenderAdvanced:Conficker analysis and tools Microsoft tips for variant B and BNMAP (NMAP ver4.85Beta5) latest conficker detectionhttp://nmap.org Use command string: nmap -PN -T4 -p139,445 -n -v --script=smb-check-vulns--script-args safe=1 [targetnetworks] Bounty Hunter:250K for ya if you can catch the original author
We did a live podcast on our TalkShoe channel today to discuss some of the misperceptions around what Cisco is doing new in the data center. Are we getting into blades? Are we just plumbers trying to build a whole house? Is just ‘me too’ technology where we are late to the game? Bryan Schwarz, one of the technical development engineers from our team that came over from Nuova joined our good friend from ePlus, Colin McNamara. Colin had some great input from his perspective, curious if you guys agree? Take a listen:Be sure and check out our full TechWiseTV show next week, April 9 -- we take the lid off this UCS thing and play with all the goodness.
How many phone numbers do you have? Why are people still trying to figure out whether to call your desk or your mobile phone or your home…etc. Should they not just call YOU? I asked my friend Mike Coffin to give me a run down of the technology…both from the ‘what do I have to do’ perspective as well as the ‘what is happening behind the scenes.’ Let me know what you think. I like the idea of chasing down user questions….let me know if there is something special you’d like to see? Robb
Gosh there has been a ton of hype and build up around this launch. Finally today, Cisco releases the Unified Computing System and all the rumor mongering can cease. However, this perhaps gets even more fun now as people get to poke and prod into actual details Cisco is providing. The biggest oversimplification has been the assumption that we are simply getting into the server market The hardest thing for many to digest however is that yes we are in the compute side, but, not in the way you traditionally understand it. I think it does help to have some background on the innovation we have been bringing to market in the last year. In fact, if you are trying to wrap your head around the problems we are aggressively moving to solve in this data center architecture, you should watch some of our previous TechWiseTV shows. -- TWTV 29 Featured the Nexus 7000 and Data Center Ethernet -- TWTV 33 featured the Nexus 5000 and Unified Fabric -- TWTV 38 featured the Nexus 1000v and VN-Link technology -- We did not do a show on the Fabric Extender (Nexus 2000) -- Craig Hultema does a good job of explaining it on YouTube as well as on the Data Center Blog. -- TWTV 43 will air on April 9…you can register now for the details behind this amazing launch of the Unified Computing SystemHindsight 20/20? Cabela’s considers themselves the ‘foremost outfitter for America’ and I know my Dad as a hunter and camping enthusiast would readily agree. Michael Copeland is VP of Operations for Cabela’s and he stopped by the booth to talk to us about how Scopix is showing real promise for them as a retailer looking for that next competitive edge. Scopix offers video analytics software that can measure customer service in a very intelligent yet transparent manner. It literally brings good hard metrics to what has historically been measure by ‘gut feel.’ Joe Sagrati, Cisco Account Manager did a great walk through the specifics of the solution. You can see that video on the next page… Read More »
