Cisco Interaction Network

We have a very exciting, very technical show coming up on July 23…we are featuring a single product/technology set…this is not entirely normal but it is worth doing on occasion. This show also represents the very early stages of us ‘breaking out’ of our typical studio setting. You will see us in our new setting (building 13 for those so inclined) and although you won’t see as much as I would like here…the fact that this is Cisco’s industry briefing center (chock full of cool partner technologies in various settings) we plan on really expanding our options here. This show is all about the technology however (if you like that sort of thing). You can register here.We are very excited to have Michael Beesly, the inventor of the Quantum Flow Processor and IOS-XE with us as we dive into these most incredible advances. Be sure andimage read a bit on his background (Maverick Engineer Creates the Prototype for a New Generation of Networking Router) to see why his skill set is so valuable. (Personal note: in working with Michael…it has been like pulling teeth to get him to take credit for anything. He is incredibly smart but very very humble. I really like that in a good engineer -- he was almost sick to his stomach each time we talked about him and kept reinforcing his team. I understand -- none of us are doing what we do on our own…so thank you. Thank you to the anonymous (correction: too many to mention) team that brought us this innovation). This router has literally re-defined a number of benchmarks of interest for both enterprise as well as our SP customers. Its very fast, and yet very modular -- striking the right balance between features and speed we need now but will still need to grow within as we move forward. The pace of video adoption we are seeing right now has put a lot of pressure on our networks and the foundational items like this are critical. The Generic Overview of the ASR: The Cisco ASR 1000 Series consists of three different versions, all powered by the new, Cisco QuantumFlow Processor (QFP) which provides a HUGE leap in performance and resiliency for route processors:ASR 1002 RouterASR 1004 RouterASR 1006 RouterThe Cisco ASR 1000 Series provides:* A significant enhanced value compared to prior generations of Cisco midrange routing solutions* Multiple services embedded in the Cisco QFP at wire speeds of up to 10 Gbps.* Separation of the control and data planesThe latest release of the ASR 1000 for our Service Provider Audience includes some very notable items: Cisco Unified Border Element (SP Edition) is a highly scalable, carrier grade Session Border Controller (SBC) integrated into the Cisco ASR 1000 series router. This can be deployed by service providers for services such as:- Business to Business (B2B) TelePresence (UNI)- Service provider VoIP peering (NNI)- Residential IP Telephony (IMS)- Enterprise SIP Trunking (PE)- IMS With over 200+ Service Provider Customers and 800+ enterprise customers since April 2008, the introduction of Cisco Unified Border Element (SP Edition) continues the success of the ground-breaking ASR 1000 Series and reinforces it as a leading service delivery platform. Combined with Firewall, Intelligent Services Gateway and Deep Packet Inspection capability, the ASR 1000 is an ideal platform for broader session management for data, voice, video and security for service providers. The Cisco Unified Session Border Controller (SP Edition) is the latest available “instant-on” service with no need for any add-on service blade. IOS XE Release 2.4.0 introduces major new enhancements to features, solutions, deployments models and is now available. I encourage you to talk with your customers to promote this important introduction on the ASR 1000 Series family. What kind of benefits should you expect? · Un-paralleled Scale: Up to 350 connections per second, up to 68,000 total sessions· Total cost of ownership: Full integration of SBC into ASR 1000 avoids overlay networks, allows CAPEX / OPEX savings and provides environmental benefits with lower power and cooling requirements· Pay-as-you-grow flexibility: Modular control plane (RP1/RP2), modular forwarding plane (2.5G/5G/10G/20G), T1/E1 to 10GE range of modular interfaces and session based licensing· Carrie Grade HA: Redundancy with in-box stateful switchover (sub 50ms), non-stop forwarding and In-Service Software Upgrades· Broader Session Management: Broad-based voice, video, data and security session management with CUBE (SP Edition), up to 20G Firewall, ISG, DPI (NBAR).· Variety of deployment options: Perfect platform to position either standalone or integrated SBC; unified as well distributed SBC models; Support for Non-IMS as well as IMS deployments.
