At Cisco, we are our partners. Which is why today’s Virtual Computing Environment Coalition announcement is about you and how we can forge ahead together in a new collaborative world.
Cloud computing and virtualization have transformed the way we do IT. Worldwide spending on data center technology infrastructure and services exceeds $350 billion annually, according to McKinsey and Company estimates. It is also estimated that approximately $85 billion, or 20% of this total market, can be addressed with data center virtualization and private cloud technology by 2015.
Today Cisco and EMC, together with VMware, are transforming the way we help accelerate migration. The VBlock Infrastructure Package, which you’ll learn more about in this video, will create a market disruption and a tremendous opportunity for our partners.
What are the key elements of today’s announcement?
Today’s announcement contains five key elements:
1. A coalition between Cisco, EMC, and VMware, called the Virtual Computing Environment — an agreement to work together to accelerate customer migration to virtualization and the private cloud.
2. Combining best-of-breed products and services from Cisco, EMC, and VMware into a single, integrated offer called the VBlock Infrastructure Package.
3. A partner toolkit to accelerate a broader ecosystem of partners to resell and implement the VBlock Infrastructure Package.
4. A services joint venture between Cisco and EMC to offer/build/operate/transfer services capabilities to help customers and partners accelerate migration to private cloud infrastructures.
5.The creation of a single support experience to fuel rapid, seamless issue resolution through a single point of accountability.

Thanks for getting this video up so fast, and confirming that this offering is channel driven, and not the VCE coalition members going direct. I know there are those of us in the partner community who are excited to go to market with a cohesive offering. –Colin
Colin – Thanks for your comment – we are excited about the potential this has for Cisco and our partners. Kevin – What is new here goes beyond the three VBlock designs that were announced today. Beginning with the integrated ongoing development of the technologies and solutions over the next number of years; creation of a joint, seamless service support model that provides customers and partners with an end-end vendor accountability model; and the Acadia joint venture to help accelerate customer adoption.Partners are at the center of this market transition and today’s announcement will help them accelerate the journey to private cloud.
Don’t you think if the new technology is really good, it should replace more than 20% of market before 2015? I think it will do much better than 20%. And by the way, $350 billion worldwide is a significant number. Which years data is this?
Hi Mathieu, thanks for reading! 20% is an estimate, but hopefully you’re right. The data was compiled earlier this year. If you’d like to see more of McKinsey’s research, some of it is available for free. Visit this page to see their data center/cloud-related research.”
It makes sense that DCNI and DCSN specializations be required if using the vBlock architecture, but do we know if they will be required for partners working via the Acadia BOT solution?
While the announcement is exciting, there is really nothing new. I just see this as another marketing gimic to take what was already being sold and repackage it and put a nice big bow around it. Will it be nice to have a reference architecture to start with for virtual environments – sure, but there are partners of Cisco, EMC and VMware already doing this today.
The VBlock Infrastructure Package will create a market disruption – agree.
Thanks for the information and facts!
