Intel Developer Forum (IDF) took place last week in San Francisco—this annual event brings together developers, designers, engineers, and a host of others looking to innovate and discuss challenges, best practices, and solutions. Cisco was a Gold Sponsor this year, hosting a booth with four demo stations.
I got the chance to make the trek to IDF (not a big hike for me, since I live in San Francisco) to take a look at how Cisco got involved this year and to scope out info for partners.
First I met with Jon Markee and Rob Kypriotakis, two of Intel’s Technical Marketing Engineers, who discussed how Intel is working with Cisco and its partners to enable new technologies in networking, such as 10GB Ethernet at a low price point. I also chatted with Scott Ciccone, Cisco’s Product Marketing Manager, who talked about the complexity that virtualization has introduced, and how Cisco’s Unified Computing System addresses challenges in the data center.
In addition, Scott filled me in on Cisco’s announcement of the UCS B230 M1 Blade Server, one of the industry’s highest density systems on the market today. This two-socket, Intel-based server delivers high performance and density in a compact, half-width form factor.

As you know, we’ve been on a journey toward increasing collaboration via social media, and along the way we’ve created a consistent and ongoing dialog with you, our partners.
It started at Partner Summit 2009 with our social media platform, The Vibe, where we posted videos, uploaded photos, and shared tweets. Whether you were attending the event live or virtually, you could participate in the discussions. But when the event ended, so did The Vibe.
For Partner Summit this year, we invited you to join Channel Buzz. “The Buzz” put all of your partner communications in one place — Twitter, videos, a feed from the Channels blog, a partner newsletter feed, as well as discussion forums. You liked it, but the platform didn’t offer the mobility we require in today’s increasingly mobile world.
As I’ve learned over the years with social media, nothing is static. As new services emerge and new tools are adopted, we must change and evolve. It is with that sentiment in mind that we make our move to a site that more than half a billion people around the world are already using: Facebook.
Not only is Facebook a free platform where many of you are already posting vacation photos and status updates to friends, it is increasingly becoming an integral part of many businesses.
With all the tasks and information we have to keep on top of these days (I often find myself juggling my work projects alongside managing my children’s schedules), it’s no wonder that most of us simply get lost in the deluge of data thrown at us. There’s email, blogs, newsletters, Twitter feeds, and other vital information vying for your attention every day. How can we track it all?

Once you’re on the My Cisco page, you can set up and customize your page to provide software alerts, track service events, access WebEx Connect spaces, check on recent service requests, and a whole lot more.

Streaming video used to be the stuff of science fiction. I remember watching “Star Trek” as a kid and seeing two people talk to one another via video monitors and thinking I would never see that technology in my lifetime.
Yet here we are, years later, and these things are part of our daily lives — we talk to each other on giant HD screens, use video conferencing via WebEx, and we’ve been touting video as the “killer app” for some time. (Though Teleportation may not be here for a little while longer.)
A new study from comScore confirms that we’re not the only ones who think video, particularly live streaming video, is here to stay. In the past year, live streaming video use jumped 600%, according to that comScore study. Not 60, but 600%!
What’s more, viewers tuned in to live streaming sites like Justin.tv, Ustream, Livestream, LiveVideo, and Stickam a total 1.4 billion minutes over the past year.
