Mighty FlexPod: Private Cloud Architectures and Superhero Support

A FlexPod has the power to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and it’s more powerful than a locomotive. No wait, that’s Superman. But FlexPods are going strong in the marketplace—and they are currently sold by 120 partners and counting.

The mighty FlexPod is also the subject of a recent whitepaper by IDC titled “Accelerating Converged Infrastructure with the FlexPod Datacenter Solution and the Support Alliance.” Cisco Partner IronBrick spoke to IDC for the white paper about its experience selling FlexPod and provided some insights on what their customers are looking for.

IronBrick customers are seeing “rapid data growth, have concerns around operational and resource limitations, have physical datacenter issues regarding space, power, and cooling, and have the desire to deploy IT solutions that enable nimble response to today’s dynamic and fast-moving application demand,” according to the whitepaper.

So guess what satisfies all of their customer needs?

FlexPod, of course. As the whitepaper notes, FlexPod has reduced the time for IronBrick and its customers to bring solutions to market. IronBrick believes that with its flexible and efficient partner ecosystem for providing on-demand resources, and its catalog of validated application design guides, FlexPod is “one of the most complete private cloud architectures available.”

Additionally, IronBrick lauds FlexPod’s ability to “deploy in phases; quickly adapt to oscillating business requirements of customers; scale out or scale up — or both — depending on new initiatives or needs; and add resources on demand in a modular fashion at each layer in the FlexPod stack.”

Perhaps most importantly, support is critical, as technical issues can arise over time, but thankfully, Cisco, NetApp, and VMware have created the Support Alliance. The Alliance provides a more streamlined response to identify and quickly resolve potential issues related to FlexPod shared infrastructures. Think of it as three superheroes working together to save the world--OK perhaps that’s taking the whole superhero analogy a bit too far. But IronBrick says the Alliance does provide the necessary long-term support needed for customers who have implemented FlexPod.

So there you have it: A flexible, complete private cloud architecture, fantastic support, many satisfied customers, and plenty of availability through a multitude of partners. What more can you ask for? Superheroes, perhaps?

You can download the full IDC whitepaper, or read more about it on a blog at the NetApp site.
