Cisco Cius: Customers Share their Perspective on Why They Need an Enterprise Tablet

From security features to the new AppHQ, I could talk for hours about why the Cisco Cius is the only tablet in the market truly built for businesses (in fact, I did this morning). Earlier this year, we heard from Nottingham University Hospitals about how the Cisco Cius and Nervecentre Software helped them cut costs and improve patient safety.

Today, I’d like to showcase some additional Cisco Cius customers, sharing how they use the Cius in day-to-day business practices to streamline customer interactions, accelerate sales and enhance collaboration.

Palomar Pomerado Health

Healthcare leaders are always looking for ways to improve patient care and speed time to treatment. When a physician receives a call about a patient, their first step is to review the patient’s medical record. Palomar Pomerado Health built the MIAA (Medical Information, Anytime, Anywhere) app on the Cisco Cius so its physicians can easily look up medical records and access the patient care team directly from the tablet wherever they are (be it at home, at the hospital or on-the-go).

Physicians can also click-to-video with a nurse, other doctors or even the patient streamlining the need for everyone to be in the same location. In an industry like healthcare, security is an absolute must. With the Cius, Palomar Pomerado Health is able to cut through the complexities of accessing patient data stored in multiple locations and provide secure and quick access to other healthcare specialists. The business-class security embedded in the Cius ensures confidence that patient data is safe and sound – and allows Palomar to leave all worries at the door.

Flexible Work Schedules Require a “Flexible” Office

Today’s “office” is vastly different from what it was even 10 years ago.

Workers are no longer bound by their stationary desktops and LAN lines, but “offices” are literally set up anywhere with laptops, “smart” devices (tablets and smart phones) and Internet connections. Just as offices are easily set up anywhere, at any time, so should business collaboration solutions be as easily accessible.

Today, Orange Business Services launched their new Unified Communications “as a service” (UCaaS) model, or “Business Together as a Service.” This new portfolio of tools, which is based on Cisco Hosted Collaboration Solution (HCS), includes telephony, unified messaging, IM with presence and conferencing. One of the key benefits of this new cloud-based model is that it gives employees access to UC applications on the fly whether they’re looking to do a brainstorm from a coffeehouse or a last minute conference call while waiting for their flight.

Enterprise 2.0: A closer look at what’s new with Cisco Quad

At the start of this year’s Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston, Cisco made a number of announcements about how we’re extending social collaboration to more customers through a new hosted and managed deployment option for Cisco Quad.

This new deployment model will be delivered initially, with the release of Quad 2.5, in the United States and Canada through ACS (a Xerox company), in Europe through Logicalis UK, and in Australia through Alphawest (a wholly owned subsidiary of Optus). In addition, we announced a key partnership with systems integrator, Capgemini, through which customers will be able to leverage the experience and expertise needed to drive the successful deployment and adoption of social collaboration in the enterprise.

And finally, lots of updates and pre-built integrations in the upcoming release of Quad 2.5, which is targeted for availability in late August, that are designed to deliver enhanced end-user engagement and adoption of the platform. For more details on the news, tune into this video discussion with Phil Heyneker, Leon Baranovsky, and Lawrence Liu.

Managing the Cultural Shift of Technology with Cisco Quad

Guest post from Hans Hwang, the Vice President of Collaboration within Cisco Advanced Services. He is responsible for driving services strategy for unified communications, emerging technologies, video, and social software.

Some of the greatest technology innovations, such as holographic displays and supersonic flights, have come and gone with barely a whimper. These innovations were unsuccessful not because they were lacking in brilliance, but because they failed to gain mass adoption.

On the other hand, communication and collaboration tools are great examples of technologies that have mass appeal and staying power.

Think about it. How many of us use some type of collaboration tool in our everyday lives? Whether it’s group texting with your friends to plan a surprise party, or video chatting with a relative to plan a visit — communication and collaboration tools have fundamentally changed the way people interact.

Collaboration technologies are unique in their potential to touch every aspect of a business.

We’re seeing a similar shift in the way companies are communicating and sharing information with employees, partners and customers. With advanced collaboration technologies, like videoconferencing and enterprise social software, companies are rethinking the way they have traditionally done business.  For instance, employees are no longer tied to their desk or required to sit in a conference room to do their jobs.

Brian Dickinson Brings Tech to Mt Everest and Shares His Harrowing Story

Brian Dickinson is an engineer at Cisco.

For many of us, we consider him a friend. When he decided he was going to climb Mt Everest as part of his personal mission to climb the Seven Summits, we collectively gasped. The danger involved was daunting and while we knew he was a tough ex-Navy guy, he’s also a husband and father and good friend!

Brian wanted to document his progress and allowed us to talk with him over a series of three WebEx events. When things started, we all had no idea the challenges he would face during his actual climb. We started out talking to him at sea-level from his home in Snoqualmie, WA. He shared his motivation, hopes and dreams about the climb.

Being a “Cisco guy” he also had a tech strategy for his trip. Read More »

Cisco at Enterprise 2.0: Announcing a New Hosted Deployment of Cisco Quad

Using Facebook and LinkedIn at work may be taboo, but more and more organizations are encouraging their workers to chat, post and comment via enterprise social software, or ESS. Last year at Enterprise 2.0 in Boston, we made a big splash by introducing our Cisco Quad social collaboration platform.

This morning, the big news at the show was that together with our partners, Cisco extended Quad’s reach with a new hosted deployment model.  This new offering will be delivered initially in the United States and Canada through ACS (a Xerox company), in Europe through Logicalis UK, and in Australia through Alphawest (a wholly owned subsidiary of Optus). Join me below for a short video that walks you through some of our news.

Cisco Announcements at InfoComm: Transforming Video Communications

Guest post by Didier Moretti, VP/GM of Cisco’s Media Experience and Analytics Business.

We are approaching a new frontier for video.  Video communications technologies like Cisco TelePresence eliminate distance, making it easier for individual and teams to meet and collaborate regardless of physical location.

But how do we extend our reach, to hundreds or even thousands of people, across many different time zones and countries, in offices or on the go and on a variety of mobile devices?

My team within Cisco has been working on addressing these needs and developing a complete solution to capture, transform, and share video content, whether live or on demand.  This week at InfoComm in Orlando, Florida, Cisco announced the newest release of the Media Experience Engine (MXE) 5600, fulfilling the next part of our capture-transform-share vision.  The MXE 5600 delivers a breadth of services aimed at addressing specific customer needs, by bringing together telepresence, video conferencing, and unified communications endpoints into WebEx, and by enabling recording and sharing of live and studio mode meetings when combined with the Cisco TelePresence Content Server.

Our solution transforms any TelePresence or video conferencing endpoint into a content creation device – and enables users to time shift and engage when they are ready, from any device, anywhere. This combination enables people to engage and leverage talent at scale, and work together in new ways that were difficult to imagine before.

Here’s how it works:

Behind the Scenes with Alice Waters: WebEx On-Demand Delivers Delicious Insights

In early 2009, Michelle Obama started working to get us re-focused on healthy eating. She brought back the White House garden with the goal of bringing homegrown food into the White House. This kind of garden was a dream of California chef Alice Waters.

Alice a leader in the movement to use locally grown organic foods.

She had discussed her idea for a White House garden with Mrs.Obama and she organized a Washington dinner before President Barack Obama’s inauguration that served foods bought from local producers at an area farmer’s market. Mrs. Obama and Ms. Waters made the headlines again yesterday.

We had a chance to meet with Alice Waters in her kitchen where we held a live WebEx with her in Berkeley! It was a terrific discussion and she even shared a quick recipe with us.

Click here to watch the WebEx.

How Video Can Transform the Classroom: Join a Webcast with Eastport South Manor School District

Eastport South Manor (ESM) Central School District, located in Manorville, New York, was looking for a new way to reach and engage their students despite a tight district budget.

With Cisco’s video solutions, ESM was able to expand the boundaries of the traditional classroom and create a digital learning environment for their students. Video provided access to outside experts and increased video collaboration across the district.

Teachers were also encouraged to incorporate digital media into their lesson plans to increase student engagement across different subjects. For example, the Art Department recently produced videos showcasing artwork that was created by students.

Cisco and ESM will partner together on a webcast on Tuesday, June 14th to highlight why ESM adopted a video strategy, and the benefits they have seen from Cisco’s Digital Media Suite. Dan Espina, Director of Information Services and Technology at ESM, will join the webcast to discuss how video has changed teaching practices and day-to-day activities at the district, and  what’s next at ESM.

Video Banking – Instant Access to Expertise

Guest post by Carl Wiese, VP of Cisco’s Global Collaboration Sales. Carl is responsible for leading Cisco’s worldwide collaboration business, overseeing a global team of 1800 product sales specialists who sell Cisco’s unified communications, telepresence, contact center and web conferencing solutions.

I spend a lot of time talking with customers representing many industries across the globe. Like most industries, financial institutions are looking for new ways to retain and grow their customer base while continuing to provide exceptional customer experiences.

One solution that many are implementing is the use of video to create access to remote experts in a personalized way.

Cisco's Remote Expert solution

With the expanding role of the network, pervasive video allows customers to access all the financial expertise they need at one time, in one place via the channel of their choice. Now consumers are no longer reliant on in-branch resources and schedules they can choose to connect by video and instantly access a pool of experts regardless of location.  It’s a win-win for both the customer and the financial institution.

One example of Cisco Remote Expert application in a client retail environment is the Citizens Financial Group Video Banking solution. This pilot, announced today, helped Citizens transform their mortgage and wealth management customer experience by enabling real-time access to experts, information, advice and solutions to both Citizens and Charter One customers.
