Worldwide Service Provider Marketing Group

Thomas Barnett, Jr. is Director of Thought Leadership in Cisco Systems’ worldwide service provider marketing group. In that capacity, he and his team are responsible for developing and maintaining several global research and market intelligence initiatives. Thomas has played a leadership role in the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI)—the company's ongoing effort to forecast and analyze the growth and use of the Internet and IP networks worldwide. He has also helped build the Cisco Global Cloud Index (GCI)—the company's ongoing effort to forecast the growth of global data center and cloud-based IP traffic as well as analysis of trends associated with data center virtualization and cloud computing.

Thomas has more than 15 years of telecom industry experience in a variety of marketing roles (supporting optical, Ethernet, storage and other technologies). He was previously the marketing communications manager for start-up Fibex Systems (acquired by Cisco). His focus has been in marketing programs and communications—writing and developing solution collateral, creating strategic partnerships, etc. Thomas has more than 25 years of professional experience including previous marketing positions at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Parker Hannifin Corporation. He earned a B.A. degree in Journalism from Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN).
