In his role as Technical Leader with the Cisco Connected Energy Advanced Research and Standards team, Paul is deeply involved with the design and implementation of Cisco's Connected Grid Architecture. Paul's work includes architecture and standards development for Cisco's Substation Automation, Field Area Network, AMI, and premises energy management efforts. He is an active contributor within several Smart Grid-related progams including Open Smart Grid, SGIP, Wi-SUN Alliance, HomePlug PowerLine Alliance, Zigbee Alliance, and related IETF work. Paul currently serves as the Chair of the Wi-SUN Field Area Network Working Group, Chair of the HomePlug Netricity PLC effort, and Security Chair for the Consortium for Smart Energy Profile.
His 12 years at Cisco include work on mass scale deployment and management systems for Voice over IP and high-speed data for cable markets, as well as related standards efforts with CableLabs and IETF. Some of the more unique development projects Paul has participated in over the last 20+ years include embedded navigation systems for America's Cup campaigns and Richard Branson's EarthWinds circumnavigation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Science in Computers and Systems from Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute.
