Eric is Director of Technology Architecture within Cisco’s central network software organization. From there he manages ~20 industry luminaries who define new business models and networking protocols in areas such as SDN, IPv6, PMIPv6, YANG, TrustSec, MediaNet, EVPN, Ethernet OAM, 3rd party APIs, Identity, Virtualization, Mobility, and other emerging technologies.
Before succumbing to the lure of management, Eric drove a number of technologies into the market during his 12+ years at Cisco and 13+ years at Verizon. These include originating Cisco’s system architectures for Carrier Ethernet, specifying new Broadband subscriber services, designing the first VoIP offering trialed by a US Incumbent Telco, and proposing PPPoE for Broadband.
Eric is the inventor of 60+ US & international patents relating to Internet Telephony, Carrier Ethernet, Advanced Intelligent Networking, Voice and Video over Broadband, PSTN switching, and Operations Support databases.
