Public Sector Wireless

As Product Manager for Public Sector Wireless at Cisco Systems, Brian Mansfield is responsible for the wireless LAN product strategy and product development for the Public Sector vertical. His duties in this role include WLAN security and Information Assurance product certifications as required by U.S. Department of Defense, Government agencies and Global Education. Key product certifications and compliance initiatives that Mansfield has led for Cisco Wireless include: FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria certifications; DoD/UC Approved Product List certification and U.S. Government IPv6 development. Since joining Cisco Systems in 2005, he has led Cisco to an industry leading sixty WLAN product FIPS 140-2 validations, ten WLAN product Common Criteria certifications and placement of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network solution on the U.S. Department of Defense Approved Product List (DOD/UC APL).

Mansfield previously held the role of Technical Marketing Engineer at Airespace, an early stage pioneer in the wireless LAN systems marketplace which was later acquired by Cisco Systems. At Airespace, Mansfield helped the company roll out Federal wireless product support across the company’s Centralized Wireless LAN product line which was ultimately selected by Cisco Systems as the platform for Cisco’s Federal wireless solution. Prior to Airespace, Mansfield served as Principal Consultant at TMG Wireless, LLC which provided Wi-Fi security services for Federal Agencies, Enterprise companies and Education institutions. A partial client roster at TMG Wireless included: U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Lockheed Martin; Mitre Corp; New York Stock Exchange; ExxonMobile; University of Maryland and the Hawaii Dept of Education.

As a strong advocate of secure wireless for the Federal Government, Mansfield has participated in numerous DoD wireless policy and Information Assurance working groups. He was a contributor to the first DoD WLAN policy working group headed by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, NII/CIO office that ultimately approved the IEEE standard, 802.11i security for Department of Defense wireless LANs. The resulting policy was later mandated for all DoD agencies in DoD Directive 8100.2 WLAN, “Use of Commercial Wireless Devices, Services, and Technologies in the Department of Defense (DoD) Global Information Grid (GIG)”. Mansfield holds a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and currently resides in Northern California with his family and yellow Labrador retriever, Lily.
