For most of us, our lives are full of momentous occasions shared by family – learning to walk, graduating from high school, starting your first job, getting married and having children. For Boston-based public relations practitioner Yumi Bilic , the next momentous occasion in family life was her sister’s wedding. Unfortunately, due to the aftermath of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the Japan native was unable to attend the festivities in Tokyo earlier this month.

After learning about Yumi’s situation, Cisco donated Cisco ūmi telepresence units to her and her family so that they would be able to be together virtually on the special day.

It's not always easy to see long distance family. My family and I who live in Menlo Park, CA haven't seen our in-laws who live in Boston, MA in over a year. Fortunately, we use ūmi two times per week for 30 minutes to 1 hour to connect.

Although we won't see our in-laws in-person for another 5 months, ūmi has definitely proven to be a very interesting way for my 2 ½ year old daughter, Ava, to play with her eldest nephew, Thomas. They do jumping jacks, play word games, and even practice playing music together.

March is National Nutrition Month, a nutrition education and information campaign designed to create awareness around the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Sponsored by the American Dietetic Association, National Nutrition Month was initiated in 1973 and has since grown into a month-long event that promotes healthy choices among Americans.

With Cisco ūmi, you can connect with loved ones on your HD television to map out meal plans, cook up a delicious meal with a rainbow of ingredients, share tips on an exercise routine or even do the routine together, encouraging each other to do one more push up or jumping jack.

The Cisco ūmi “Get Together” Mobile Tour is on the move again! This time, we’re headed to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Jam Session 2011! As an Official Technology Partner of the NBA, we’re excited to be a part of this four-day event that brings together NBA players and Legends with their biggest fans.

In between shooting hoops, swapping stories with other fans and shopping for NBA All-Star merchandise, stop by the Cisco ūmi “Get Together” Mobile Tour van. We’ll be camped out February 18 – 20 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, demonstrating how Cisco ūmi works and allowing you to connect with your favorite NBA players in high def on a big screen television. We know how tall NBA players can be, but don’t worry! Cisco ūmi lets you zoom in and out and pan the room so you won’t miss any of the action as you chat with them.
