As Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer, John Stewart leads the Cisco Global Government Solutions and Corporate Security Programs groups.
Cisco Global Government Solutions meets the unique requirements of international agencies and governments around the world, addressing the challenges faced by the defense and intelligence communities, while advising government customers on the practices and technology solutions that achieve and enhance their mission goals.
As Cisco’s Chief Security Officer, Stewart leads the Corporate Security Programs team, which is focused on ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of critical information and computing assets, as well as managing risk to enable positive growth for Cisco’s business. It also oversees security in development practices in Cisco’s engineering organization, research in critical infrastructure assurance, electronic discovery in Cisco’s legal organization, and Internet security research. Stewart is also responsible for overseeing security for Cisco.com, the infrastructure supporting Cisco’s business, as well as Cisco WebEx, the collaboration service providing more than 73 million online meetings per year, among other Cisco functions.
His combined organization carries out initiatives focused on global information security, identity management and security evaluation, product security and secure product delivery, and government security with focus on defense, intelligence, national security, cryptography, and advanced government services that promote Cisco, Internet, national, and global security.
Throughout his 25-year career, Stewart has been an active member in the broad security industry, leading or participating in security efforts ranging from elementary school IT design to national security programs. Today, he sits on technical advisory boards for Panorama Capital and RedSeal Networks, and is on the board of directors for KoolSpan, Fixmo, and the National Cyber-Forensics Training Alliance. Additionally, Stewart serves on the Council of Experts for the Global Cyber Security Center and the Cybersecurity Think Tank at University of Maryland University College. He has served on the CSIS Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency and on advisory boards for successful companies such as Akonix, Cloudshield, Finjan, Ingrian Networks, Riverhead, and TripWire. He is a highly sought public and closed-door speaker, a popular blogger on blogs.cisco.com/security, a 2010 recipient of the Federal100 Award, and one of Security magazine’s Most Influential Security Executives for 2012. Stewart holds a master of science degree in computer and information science with honors from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York.
