Dave Dalva

No Longer with Cisco

Dave Dalva is a Senior Security Strategist for Cisco Systems' Smart Grid unit, helping guide security architecture and solutions development. Since February 2010, Dave has served as a Vice Chair of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel - Cyber Security Working Group, which published its "Guidelines for Smart Grid Cyber Security (NISTIR 7628)" in August, 2010. Dave has also served as the security lead for Cisco's alliances with IBM and Microsoft and has broad experience in host-based and network security.

Prior to Cisco, Dave consulted with the U.S. Department of Defense as well as numerous enterprise customers designing secure networks.

Dave has been in the information security industry for over 25 years. He began his career in computer security by helping his alma mater UCLA catch some of the earliest computer hackers in 1984. He has worked as a security researcher at Trusted Information Systems on projects such as trusted operating systems and encryption, and helped TIS exploit the emerging firewall market. Dave holds three patents in computer security, and has published influential papers on firewalls and web security.
