What do you think? Which devices are you using? Here’s a “confession” from our very own Alex Hadden-Boyd, Director of Marketing for the Collaboration Software Group,
“BlackBerry’s turn for Cisco WebEx Meeting Center!”
I’ve been blogging about iPads and iPhones and I’m sure many of you have wondered: “what about BlackBerry?” Well I have good news and a confession. The good news is that Cisco today announced a free downloadable client for Cisco WebEx Meeting Center on BlackBerry smartphones. The confession is that I’m a multiple device user -- I do have an iPhone and an iPad, but I also have a BlackBerry. And since my Blackberry is funded by Cisco, that’s the device I use for company business like email and Single Number Reach. So I’m thrilled that the ability to easily attend a meeting on my BlackBerry is now available.
You can now attend WebEx meetings on your BlackBerry to collaborate with colleagues, partners and customers. I should clarify that we support the newer models of BlackBerry on OS 4.6. If your BlackBerry isn’t one of them, time to upgrade!
The WebEx app has many of the same features as the WebEx on the iPad—being able to join WebEx meetings with integrated audio call back (no WebEx VoIP on BlackBerry in this release), see shared presentations, view participant list and chat with attendees. In addition, users with WebEx host accounts can also start pre-scheduled WebEx meetings on their BlackBerry and pass presenter control to another attendee joined from a computer.
One of the key areas of focus in developing this application has been in providing the best user experience for the BlackBerry users. To start, we’ve conducted many rounds of usability testing to make sure the application is easy and intuitive for BlackBerry users to join and participate in WebEx meetings. For example, the WebEx app for BlackBerry allows meeting participants to use contextual menus and shortcuts for fast navigation, like “I” to zoom in, and “O” to zoom out, while they are on the go.
Of course, all WebEx meetings, including meetings on the BlackBerry, are delivered via theCisco WebEx Collaboration Cloud . This means users can join WebEx meetings on their BlackBerry anywhere in the world while IT can have the confidence that it’s highly secure and reliable, end to end.
You can download the WebEx for BlackBerry app from http://www.webex.com/blackberry or from BlackBerry App World. To see the application in action, join a live demo by visitingwww.webex.com on your supported BlackBerry smartphones from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm PST, Monday through Friday. And let me know how you like the experience and how it’ll make you more productive. We’ll continue to enhance this application, so ideas for enhancements are also welcome.
