Cisco today announced its intent to acquire privately-held BNI Video. BNI Video provides service providers video back office and content delivery network (CDN) analytic capabilities. Together, Cisco and BNI Video will enable service providers to deliver next generation IP-based video experiences to consumers.
The acquisition will advance the capabilities of Cisco’s Videoscape TV platform, which allows service providers to create a new, immersive home and mobile video entertainment experience over any Internet Protocol (IP) network. Videoscape, a key component of our service provider video strategy, is the only end-to-end network-based Video solution on the market today.
Cisco’s Videoscape strategy will be bolstered immediately by the addition of the BNI Video team and technology. BNI Video addresses the service provider need for an immediate video back-office service to enable new services. In the future, BNI Video will provide technology that augments the Videoscape platform roadmap for session and process management of next-generation IP-based video. In addition, BNI Video provides Content Delivery Network (CDN) analytics capabilities that will help service providers manage and monitor video delivery.
Upon the close of the acquisition, BNI Video employees will be integrated into Cisco’s Service Provider Video Technology Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco will pay approximately $99 million in cash and retention-based incentives in exchange for all shares of BNI Video. The acquisition is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to be complete in the second quarter of Cisco’s fiscal year 2012.
