In October, we wrote about the federal government’s move toward installing video and telepresence capabilities on mobile devices to improve communication, especially for law enforcement and defense purposes. With mobile telepresence, the government can enhance collaboration and response time during critical events.
If you are attending Cisco Live Europe in London (Jan 31 to Feb 3), here is a panel that you won’t want to miss. Six top Cisco engineering executives in charge of the innovative technologies for wireless, security, WAN optimization and the network will all participate in a panel “Enable the Cloud, Enable Private Mobile Devices, Enable the Future…”.
During this panel the executives will unveil their vision of what will shape the future of IT in the next several years. If you have ever had a question you’ve always wanted to ask – this is your opportunity.
I have talked to many enterprises that want a private cloud; also service providers that want to build a public cloud based upon Cisco UCS / Nexus. They all would like to get to their first generation of cloud very quickly. We have many conversations on infrastructure to use, the right choice of hypervisor, and what use cases to start with. Today I talked to a customer of our Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud that wants a differentiating end user portal. Everyone can spin up a VM, but how to do it in a way that will drive adoption and new business, whether it is for the enterprise or service provider? How do we do this at a cost and a timeline that meets the needs of the business and the CIO.
These are not lightweight concerns. I have seen many data center automation projects that focused too much on the provisioning and not enough on the end user experience. The Intelligent Automation Solutions Business Unit at Cisco has been involved with many customers building private and public clouds with our software stack. This includes Cisco IT’s very large private cloud deployment based upon our software. The two services they deployed: CITEIS (Cisco IT Elastic Infrastructure Services) Express and CITEIS VDC (Virtual Data Center) has received broad acclaim. Watch the following videos by Jamie MacQuarrie of the Intelligent Automation team on these two CITEIS Services.
If you have browsed the Social Media Week agenda, your eyes have probably caught a panel discussion on The Road to Becoming A Social Business. We’re thrilled to have Michael Brito (@britopian), SVP Edelman Digital and author of the book, Smart Business, Social Business moderate this panel with Adobe, SAP, Wells Fargo and Intel. We’re going to cover questions such as: How do you hold people accountable? How do you organize for social? How do you create or find content that make great stories? How do you encourage content innovation and experimentation while protecting your brand? How do you scale? And many more questions along the same lines. In addition to the discussion, our panelists will leave you with some practical tips you can take back with you right away. If you plan to attend this session live or on the Cisco UStream channel, be ready to ask your questions in person or via social media using the #SMWCisco hash tag. (Note: the hash tag for the entire week is #SMWSF but we have set up a hash tag specific to our day at Cisco to help better navigate through the questions related to our event.)
Drum roll please… immediately following the panel, Michael will be signing his book, Smart Business, Social Business. The book walks you through the internal transformation of organizations into a social business and describes the key factors to be considered in this evolution. To learn more, check out our video interview with Michael. (By the way, we had a great time shooting the video interview. Check out a video montage of bloopers below.)
