This week we are celebrating a milestone by announcing that 10,000 customers worldwide have deployed our new Unified Computing System. In just over two years UCS has captured the attention of data center managers and CIOs alike, despite skepticism from industry observers that a new computing technology could take hold in this highly competitive market.
According to a recent Servers and Virtualization Study by TheInfoPro,™ Cisco took the lead among server vendors in vision, technical innovation, product performance, and sales force.
Many have asked “how did UCS become successful so rapidly?” The answer lies with our customers: they selected UCS because the architecture drove a transformation of their data centers, while delivering advantages for their business and lowering IT costs. And we see a growing number of these customers, including half the fortune 500 companies, using UCS as the foundational building block to move towards private and hybrid clouds.

As a Michigan native, I was raised in a state well known for one industry in particular: Automotive. This past week, the automotive industry was placed on spotlight at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, featuring the latest innovations in automotive designs, engines, interior options, and more. This year’s attendance to the 9-day show topped 800,000, with the largest opening day crowd since 2005! Historically, this industry has utilized traditional forms of communication to harness attraction from the public. However, trends are showing how this industry is embracing social media to broaden its outreach.
Collaborating directly with Eric Hoppe, a Social Media Analyst in Michigan who works specifically on automotive campaigns, we explored emerging social media trends at this year’s auto show. Through photos and insights collected live from the Auto Show floor, we exchanged exciting dialogues about how social media is positively impacting the automotive industry.

Led by CIO James Webb, WTAMU has set the standard for distance learning by using a combination of Cisco Enterprise Video technologies to help students and faculty capture, transform and share video across the campus and beyond.
Webb has himself also garnered recent honors, and was named to ComputerWorld’s 2012 Premier 100 IT Leaders list. The program will honor the top 100 IT and business leaders that have shown exceptional leadership and innovation in IT strategy and planning at a conference to be held in Phoenix, AZ in March 2012.
